Abstract
Nutritional support for the hospitalized patients with malnutrition is essential for not only the favorable clinical outcomes of medical treatment, but also the maintenance of patients¢¥ lives themselves. Effective nutritional support is possible only when the accurate nutritional assessment for adequate nutrient formulation is available. Nutritional assessment should include both the anthropometric measurements and laboratory tests. So far, the standard anthropometric values of Korean poqulation for nutritional assessment are not investigated. This study is primmarily aimed to establish more reliable standard values based on the general population than the velues which were investigated n the small group of population in 1985. Comparing with the data of 1985, the standard deviations for each sampling group and the mean values of males with the ages of 45-54 and females of 35-54, are larger than those of 1985 witch were calculated via the extrapolation technique from the mean values of the group with large sampling numbers. The standard anthropometric values calculated based on the randomly collected data during this study period are presented and may be clinically applicable for the more accurate nutritional assessment than before.
